Privacy Policy

Policy

Prism builds tools that make molecular motion legible, and the data we hold about the people who use them is held to the same standard we hold our science to: collected for a stated reason, kept only as long as that reason lasts, and described plainly enough that you can tell what we have.
This policy covers prismscience.org, the documentation and dataset viewers served from it, and any correspondence you start with us through the contact form. It does not cover the sites we link out to, which run their own policies.
We review this policy whenever the way we handle data changes, and we date the revision at the foot of the page rather than notifying every reader of an edit that affects nobody.

Information collected

Most of what we hold you gave us on purpose. The rest is the ordinary exhaust of serving a web page, and we keep as little of it as a working site allows.
  • What you send us: the name, email address, organisation and message you type into the contact form, and anything you attach to a reply.
  • What your browser sends: IP address, user agent, referring page and the URLs you requested, held in server logs for thirty days and then discarded.
  • What we measure: how users access and interact with the site, to understand usage patterns, improve the site, and maintain security.
We do not sell or share personal information for monetary consideration or for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Responsibility

Astera Institute ("Astera") is the controller of the personal data described above. Prism is a project of Radial, a division of the Astera Institute. Our engineering team administers the systems that hold it, and access is limited to the people who need it to answer you or to keep the site running.
Where a supplier processes data on our behalf, they do so under a written agreement that binds them to the same limits: our hosting provider, our transactional email provider and our analytics host. None of them are permitted to use the data for their own purposes.
If we are ever required to hand over data by a lawful order, we will tell you unless we are legally barred from doing so.

Additional information

We may use cookies, log files, or similar technologies to collect information about how users access and interact with the site. You may configure your browser to refuse cookies, although some portions of the site may not function properly if cookies are disabled. We may also use third-party analytics providers to help us understand how the site is used.
We store and process your information on our services located in the United States. We use a secure server and security protocol to safeguard any information you provide.
The site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

Your privacy rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding the personal information we hold about you.
  • Access: ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Rectification: have anything inaccurate corrected.
  • Erasure: ask us to delete what we hold, where we have no overriding reason to keep it.
To make a request regarding your personal information, please contact us at info@astera.org.
